The island of Kodiak in Alaska is home to some of the largest brown bears in the world. The Aurora Borealis Kodiak is a bruiser with a 9.75-inch blade that can handle many tasks. My overall philosophy when designing this knife was to create the best compromise between a pure chopper and a smaller utility wood knife while not being overly large. The Kodiak is an excellent chopper and does short batoning work, yet it can still easily be carried on the belt or shoulder. It remains surprisingly good at small tasks like preparing feather sticks or carving notches. The Kodiak is also great at scraping tinder or a firesteel because of its large 90-degree spine. I have used the Kodiak knife on many adventures ranging from canoe camping expeditions to winter camping at -20 degrees, and it has never let me down. Some have said that the Kodiak is an excellent tool option, and I agree.
