“Each piece is unique — no two are exactly alike.”
Intro of the knife designer.
James Helm is an American bladesmith and custom knife maker who gained recognition through his appearance on the History Channel's Forged in Fire. Known for his solid forging skills, attention to detail, and practical knife designs, Helm has earned respect within the bladesmithing community. His work emphasizes functional performance, quality heat treatment, and clean craftsmanship, reflecting the traditions of handmade American bladesmithing. His appearance on Forged in Fire helped introduce his work to a wider audience of knife enthusiasts.
James Helm is a talented bladesmith best known for his appearance on Forged in Fire, but to me, he's much more than that. I first met James in 2018 at my first Blade Show West in Portland, Oregon. He purchased the very first knife from our table, and we've remained good friends ever since.
Through James, I was introduced to his close friend, Zeke Menacho. That friendship quickly grew as well, and Zeke went on to collaborate with us on several knife designs that have become some of our most recognized models. Both James and Zeke have played important roles in our journey, helping to introduce Work Tuff Gear to the broader knife community and opening doors within the industry. I'm grateful for their friendship, support, and the impact they've had on our growth over the years.
