Description
I got the idea of the Silvanus from my knife the Night Hunter and wanted to make a woods edc version of it. Silvanus in Latin means “of the woods” which is pretty fitting for a woods edc knife. I kept the blade recurved because recurves really help with slicing and cutting. The Silvanus is SK85 steel and has a main saber grind with a scandi grind cutting edge with a micro convex edge, which makes it super robust and can handle harder use tasks. The Silvanus is a 6-inch blade that's 3/16 inches thick which helps baton 5-inch pieces of wood easier because you have 1 inch of the blade and a wider blade to baton on. The blade is angled downward to help with gutting deer and other animals. The downward angle of the blade keeps the tip away from the guts when you go to gut the animal. I hunt a lot so this was a must when I designed this knife. The spine has the standard WorkTuff Gear sharpness to it for ferro rod striking. The G10 handle is exceptionally grippy but is not uncomfortably aggressive. The handle has a generous palm swell with dips cut out on the bottom of the handle on both sides for the bottom of your palm rest without getting any hot spots and the dip on the other side help’s your ring and pinky finger get a solid grip. The finger groove gets close to the cutting edge to help with controlling finer detailed carving tasks. And last but not least and the most apparent feature is the notch on the spine. The notch is for grabbing pot handles, scraping the hard layer off of sinew, pulling nails, or whatever other tasks you can think of.
