Hellion (K329)- Darkwashed /Black + Red liner Grip
Disclaimer: As a result of our meticulous hand-finishing process, each Hellion knife possesses subtle, inherent variations in its blade finish and grind, imbuing every piece with a unique character. While we strive for perfection, minor aesthetic nuances, such as a faint satin scratch on the bevel, may be present due to the artisanal nature of our production.

Steel
Böhler K329 is a high-performance tool steel produced by Böhler, designed primarily for industrial applications but also gaining popularity in the knife-making community due to its excellent balance of toughness, wear resistance, and edge retention.
Key Characteristics:
-
Steel Type: Medium-alloyed cold-work tool steel.
-
Composition (approximate):
-
Carbon: ~1.5%
-
Chromium: ~12%
-
Molybdenum, Vanadium, and other alloying elements are present for enhanced wear resistance and hardenability.
-
-
Hardness: Can be heat-treated to reach hardness levels suitable for demanding cutting applications (around 58–63 HRC).
-
Toughness: Higher toughness compared to some high-wear steels, making it more resistant to chipping.
-
Corrosion Resistance: Moderate — better than plain carbon steels, but not stainless; requires care to prevent rust in humid or corrosive environments.
-
Wear Resistance: High — good for knives that see abrasive use or repeated impact.
Use in Knives:
K329 is valued in knife making for tools, outdoor knives, and hard-use blades where a combination of edge retention and toughness is needed. It’s not as commonly seen as steels like D2 or M390, but is respected by custom makers for its reliability and performance.

Knife Care
Caring for a knife made from Böhler K329 steel is important to maintain its performance and prevent corrosion, especially since it is not fully stainless. Here are some key maintenance tips:
🔧 General Care Tips
-
Clean After Use
-
Wipe the blade clean and dry immediately after use, especially after cutting acidic foods (e.g., citrus, tomatoes) or using the knife in wet or humid environments.
-
-
Oil the Blade Regularly
-
Apply a light coat of food-safe mineral oil or a corrosion inhibitor (like WD-40 for tools) to prevent rust. This is especially important in high-humidity areas or if the knife will be stored for long periods.
-
-
Avoid Dishwashers
-
Always wash the knife by hand. Dishwashers can cause corrosion and damage the handle or edge due to high heat and harsh detergents.
-
-
Store Properly
-
Use a knife block, sheath, or magnetic strip. Avoid keeping it in a damp drawer or leather sheath long-term, as moisture can promote rust.
-
🔪 Sharpening and Edge Maintenance
-
We recommend that you use the leather strop system to keep it razor sharp.
🌧️ Special Considerations for Outdoor Use
If using the knife for camping, bushcraft, or other rugged tasks:
-
Dry and oil it promptly after exposure to moisture (rain, dew, wet wood).
-
Consider applying a patina (deliberate oxidation using vinegar or mustard) to improve rust resistance.
-
