The Atayal is named after one of the largest indigenous tribe in Taiwan.
For the indigenous peoples who live in the mountains, the knife plays an important role in daily life, from clearing the patch when walking through the bushes in the forests to self-defense, hunting, and food preparation.
The unique upswept edge is great for working with the meat process, and the strong pointed blade will offer better penetration.
The Atayal is a mid-large recurved edge knife featuring an 8.2" blade made of 0.196" Japanese SK85 (1085) Carbon steel. The knife comes with the skeleton tang for weight reduction. The blade is being carefully heat-treated to 56-58 with a dual tempering process for maximum durability, flexibility, and easier resharpening in the field.
Dark Sky finish can prevent the knife from being rust easily in the field; however, we recommend cleaning and oil the blade after each use.
-The handle is made of 3D machined G10 and is removable for cleaning or replacement.
-The handle is rounded for a more comfortable grip and will not cause any hot spots.
-The walnut pattern provides extra grip under wet conditions.
-Solid pommel will allow you to break or hammer things in the field.
-The large finger choil allows fingers to grip the blade while working on detailed cutting jobs safely.
-Starting the fire with a Ferro rod on the 90-degree spine will be much more efficient.
-Taco style sheath is made of 0.08" thick black Kydex sheet, and each sheath comes with a tek lok
